Guide to Smart Home Wiring - Electrical
Smart Home wiring for electrical circuits is a mix of conventional 240v wiring that
remains the same to control the actual load (lights) but also includes data cabling
for the switch control. Conventional wiring of your home
The old way of controlling lights was with the normal switches you have used for
years. These switches simply turn on or off to control the load. If you wanted to
change the way you controlled the lights in any way then you would have to re-wire
your house. To be able to control the same lights from different locations in different
ways is virtually impossible.
With smart home electrical wiring a major change occurs over conventional wiring.
Mainly devices (called dimmers & relays) now control the loads instead of 240v
switches. Your normal switches are replaced with intelligent switches that are linked
via data cable. These switches "talk" to the dimmers and relays and instruct
them what to do. The great thing about this method is that the system is reprogrammed
rather than rewired at any time to make the changes required.
